Giving Thanks for Friends and Family this Holiday Season!

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched.

They must be felt with the heart.”

                                                                                                 -- Helen Keller

Ah, the holidays are upon us. Get-togethers. Celebrations. Family feasts and traditions abound. This time of year provides families with a wonderful opportunity to take a few minutes to pause and reflect.

What are you most grateful for? Try making a gratitude list with at least five things on it. Ask your children to come up with their own list and then compare. You might find you share some of the same things. This can open the door to a heartfelt conversation about what’s most important to you and your family.

For those of you who plan to volunteer over the holiday, thank you. As we support our children to become global citizens, we discover that what’s important about volunteering is looking beyond our own world and seeing the beauty and humanity that surrounds us. It’s extremely rewarding—and a reminder of how fortunate we are.

And if you need some ideas, here are a few:

  • Serve food as a family at a soup kitchen or senior center

  • Arrange a visit as a group to a convalescent home

  • Help sort food or clothing at a local charity

  • Bake treats for your neighbors, getting reacquainted as you deliver them

Many of us will be sending warm thoughts to family members living far away who can’t join us this holiday season. Others will share special time with friends whom we haven’t seen in awhile or visit neighbors who may find themselves alone this time of year.

At Stratford School, our children will also be front and center. They’ll be excited about the season and enjoying the winter activities. Don’t miss this opportunity to spend extra time together creating special memories. Perhaps something as simple as setting aside an afternoon to bake special treats with your children. Or sharing stories about your childhood. Children always seem to love hearing funny stories about their parents when they were young.

However you choose to celebrate the season, we wish you peace and joy.

Enjoy your friends and enjoy your family. Look to the New Year with excitement and hope.

Season’s Greetings from our family to yours!
