Kidspace Storytellers Studio Where Stories Come to Life

By Kimberly Abdul-Malik, contributor January 19, 2017

Imagination is something that is derived from a place of innocence and freedom.  Initially Upon arriving at Kidspace Museums Storytellers Studio my children were mesmerized by the simplicity of colorful puppets, a dress up stage area, as well as an art studio.

As a parent it was refreshing to release them to be and do what their hearts desired for that moment in time.  My daughters explored the fabrics and textiles first to capture the perfect costume for their world travel.  They engaged in social play with other children with the same interests. Major decisions had to be made for the final production. They joyfully changed the stage areas backlight with the press of one button to fit the current mood.

In the art area children built designs out of 3D blocks,  created chalk drawings, and were able to manipulate shapes to create images. To see a snowman built off of possibility was priceless.  The Storytellers Studio provides children with opportunities to develop reading skills in its storybook area.

As an educator, it is evident that this space encourages literacy,  growth and development in a non-restrictive environment.  It only left me with one lingering question. Where do I sign up for my Kidspace membership? It was a parent and child's dream come true.
Priceless!

The mission of Kidspace Children's Museum is to nurture the potential of all children through kid-driven experiences, inspiring them to become joyful, active learners.

To help us achieve this, we work by the following core values:

  • Respect—We respect our guests by asking their opinions and listening. We also respect our guests and embrace diversity.
  • Integrity—We do what we said we will do even when it is not the easy thing to do. We want to be transparent with our finances so our investors know how they are making a difference.
  • Safety—The safety of our guests comes first. We have a safe environment where young minds of all ages can explore, learn, and have fun.
  • Experiential Learning—Education is the core of who we are. We believe that when learning becomes fun, the learner does so willingly.

An incredible seed bed of learning and discovery, the purpose of a children’s museum is to inspire children to learn and grow, equip parents and teachers, and to be a safe place where learners of all abilities can do so at their own pace and focus on topics of interest to them. This is often referred to as “Free Range Learning.” What makes us different from a school is our approach to informal education. We believe in giving our guests hands-on experiences that are relevant and inspiring.
